What To Expect Onboard: Kopiko is a comfortable cruiser, happily skipping along the waves at a gentle pace, eagerly awaiting a good stiff breeze where she comes into her own. This edgy catamaran, a Turissimo 10, was designed in the early 1980’s by forward-thinking New Zealand designer, the late Malcolm Tennant. She was built as part of his range of performance multihull designs which are popular world-wide. Built by a New Zealand boat builder, Wayne Robson in his own backyard, she was launched in 1991. Kopiko was one of the first multihulls in the world to be designed and made of strip-plank cedar composite construction, which is now so common. I had booked the island hopper for a group of 7 ladies and couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful experience on the water! Our sailors Luke and Amy were so nice and super chill. They even let a few of us have a crack at steering the sail. Couldn’t recommend this enough

Our Captain will take you on an adventure you won’t forget! He is so very passionate about sharing his love of sailing, and a true adventurer. After learning the ropes on the South Sea Vagabond 60ft power cat in Tauranga, he went on to serve as First Mate on the Willy in Broome Western Australia, an 80ft gaff rigged schooner. He landed his first job as Captain aboard Barbary, 38ft cutter rigged ketch sailing on the beautiful Lake Taupo, further honing his sailing skills, before making his way to the Bay of Islands. It was here that his love of sailing catamarans began when he Skippered Straycat, 35ft Woods Ocean Spirit. Join Captain Luke for a day of laughter, tall tales, and an unforgettable sailing experience!

The Skipper wants to provide you the best experience possible and, within reason, cater to your wishes – but they are also ultimately responsible for your safety and the safety of the yacht. And for the experienced sailors who join the Barefoot Crew, sometimes we don’t sail the boat to it’s full potential as there are certain conditions that are not comfortable for all passengers, especially those new to boats and sailing so we like to make it comfortable for everyone :) On the ocean, Mother Nature ensures that every trip is different. Each season of the year brings different conditions. Sometimes the sailing is easy, other times it can be challenging, sometimes it rains, sometimes there’s not enough wind for us to use the sails and we use our engine. But whichever way it happens it always works out great. After all, any day Barefoot is a great day! Bookings 1.
