It´s the place we have the most fun on good days. It is a 20 min. boat ride from the small marina in mid Reykjavik. At this place you have everything. Kelp forests, marine life, many crab types and a nice beach. The viz varies and depends og many factors, but always fun. If we are lucky we see seals and other big sea creatures. Davíðsgjá is a freshwater volcanic fissure which is connected to the big lake at Thingvellir with same visibility as Silfra. The water is so clear that freediving in it feels like flying. Snorkeling or Freediving in the Kelp forest ( 9:30 AM -12:30 PM or 16:30 - 19:30) The site is good for snorkellers or freedivers that want an easy dive, but with loads to see and fun places to swim through like an Icelandic kelp forest and rocks. The max depth of this site is about 15m, with usually a very good visibility to the bottom. On the site you can expect in the summer months to see shoals of fish swimming in the currents over the kelp forest. You will also see massive Lions’ Mane jelly fish (totally harmless), mussels, quahogs, sea urchins, hermit crabs, starfish… If you want to catch your dinner its the ideal place to come with a spear, to hunt for cod in the kelp. Snorkeling safari around “The pearl of Eyafjordur” 1 full day : ( 9:30 AM - 4:00 PM) A unique opportunity to explore a remote Icelandic island from the land and the sea. The Pearl of Eyafjordur, as Hrisey island, is also known, is an island in the middle of the fjord Eyafjordur, full of great snorkeling spots to enjoy. It is also haven for birds, as per why cats and dogs are not allowed on it. It is an amazing place with a rich flora and fauna to enjoy especially in the summer. Arnarnesstrýtan freediving:(16:30 PM- 18:30 PM) Arnarnesstrýtur is a protected area full of life from wolf fish to maybe even whales. The site cover quite a vast area of chimneys with hot freshwater spilling out into the sea. They are a rare opportunity to see geothermal activity underwater and the amazing affects this has to the sea. The maximum depth of this dive is about 25m. Freediving foodhunt (8:30 AM-12:30 PM) Freediving foodhunt is a very exciting and rewarding, although it is not something to be entered into without care and respect. Learn to hunt for food and discover the vast array of foods you can gather from the ocean. this course will give you an hour of breathhold training followed by a 2 hour novice foodhunt training (depending on weather conditions) the course will cover basic equipment, diving, finding a suitable hunting ground, hunting, dispatching your catch. Learn To Dive All AIDA courses Theory First we go over slides together. You will get all reading material beforehand so you can start learning a.s.a.p This means you can do all reading beforehand and get into the freedive zone. This will minimize the time needed inside Pool time When theory is done we go into pooltime. We go to a local 25 meter pool with freedive equipment to start splashing around You do a static session and learn how to hold your breath under water. You learn how to use those long sexy fins ????. You learn turning and more. Open water session (Not in AIDA 1*) When we have done some pool time it´s time to enter open water with all freedive gear needed. Ofcause all depends on weather, but there are always places we can go to. Sometimes we go out on a RIB boat. You learn how to use those long sexy fins. You learn turning and more. Theory exam time Usually we do the exam at the end of the course, but then again, not always At some point the exam will be done and you need 75% score Don´t worry, this is done in a relaxed environment. Biggi is a qualified AIDASSIPADI Master freediver instructor as well as an EFR instructor. Trained in Dahab, Egypt where he completed AIDA 2, 3 and 4.He continued his freediving education in the UK passing AIDA Instructor with Emma Farrell. He was the first person in Iceland to qualify as a freediver and currently holds the Icelandic record.Lover of the sea, Biggi also is a PADI Divemaster, holds boatmasters rights… Hobbies beside under the surface are: Family, boats, rock climbing, fitness and all strange adventures.
