Elounda bay area lies 11 km north – west of Agios Nikolaos, and is known for its wind – protected sandy coves, rocky coastlines, the beautiful village of Elounda itself, the fishing harbor, the sunken city of Olous (one of the most important cities during the Minoan era) and of course for the sensational Spinalonga islet. During the Venetian occupation (1211 – 1669) the whole islet became an impressive and highly effective fortress, so effective that permitted to the Venetians to occupy Elounda bay until 1715, almost 50 years after the Ottomans had conquered Crete (1669). From 1903 to 1957 Spinalonga was known as the island of the outcasts because Greek authorities decided to establish an isolated colony for lepers and political prisoners. Many tragic stories about love, hate, pain and separation happened there. Victoria Hislop was inspired by them (among many other authors) to write her best – seller “The Island”. Today Spinalonga is the most popular archaeological site in Crete after Knossos as thousands of tourists visit the picturesque islet every summer. Agios Nikolaos is an exclusively beautiful town surrounding the homonymous, small yet impressive lake. This place is truly scenic with a lot of neoclassical buildings, restaurants, bars, shops and intense night life. Most of the seashores in and around the town, rocky or sandy, are wind – protected and outstandingly gorgeous. The atmosphere is cosmopolitan and extravagant as some of the oldest top–luxurious resorts of Greece, built more than fifty years ago, are located here. A feeling of leisure, nostalgia and romance hovers all over the place. Lake Voulismeni, in the center of the town, is definitely unique. A local legend says that the lake is bottomless. Actually, some people talk about a huge hole in the middle of the lake, a kind of tunnel, which goes as far as the Santorini volcano. We invite you aboard to share together the ultimate experience of sailing along the divine seashores of Elounda and Agios Nikolaos. CRUISE TIMETABLE DAY 1: Cruising from Heraklion to Elounda The boat leaves Heraklion Venetian port, sailing along the north – eastern seashore towards Elounda Bay. You can relax, get some suntan on the deck, or join the sailing procedure while getting eye – catching views of the coast from aboard and sensing the sea breeze on your skin. Reaching the mouth of Elounda bay you will be charmed as we approach the thrilling guardian of the bay, Spinalonga islet. Leave your mind wandering to the past as we take a promenade around the dreamscape. After the tour you can enjoy swimming, fishing, or snorkeling into the crystal-clear emerald waters. You can also take a walk around the unique scenery or just relax and continue suntanning aboard. Alternatively, we can sail around the bay and take sensational views of the majestic landscape. We will stay overnight in the marina of Agios Nikolaos. After having dinner in one of the many restaurants / taverns available we can get a taste of the intense night life at a bar or a cafe or take a romantic walk around the attractive lake shore and the beautiful graphic port. DAY 2: Exploring Mirabello Bay The second day you will continue relaxing and suntanning while sailing along the amazing coastline of Mirabello bay. There are a bunch of sandy, pebbled or rocky coves, most of them wind – protected, with crystal clear, calm, aquamarine waters, calling you to dive into. Some of them are well organized, fully equipped with sunbeds, umbrellas, water sports etc. Others are mystical and quiet. You will enjoy swimming, fishing, snorkeling, you may try some water sports at an organized beach or just relax on board or at the seashore. In the afternoon you can taste delicious Cretan dishes at a local tavern / restaurant (there are lots of them around, just by the coastline). Late in the evening we are sailing back to Agios Nikolaos marina for our second overnight. Another tour around the town will reveal to you some more intriguing secrets and beauties about this magnifying, cosmopolitan place and its nightlife. DAY 3: Sailing back to Heraklion We depart from Agios Nikolaos early in the morning, sailing along the coastline of the southern part of Elounda bay which is as impressive as the northern part. You may have a swim break there before continuing our trip towards Heraklion. We could have another break to swim and/or lunch at one of the many beautiful beaches around Hersonissos before arriving in Heraklion bay late afternoon. You will have the opportunity to enjoy every second of the stellar sunset and the twilight magic as the sun, led by god Helios riding his golden chariot, dives into the magnificent Aegean. The sailboat reaches Heraklion Old Venetian Port at about 21:00. It is time to say goodbye. Hope you had an exceptional experience and wish to see you aboard soon. SAILBOAT OVERVIEW Elan Impression 514 (named MGV TREATON) is a fast-cruising yacht in a league of her own. Designed by the distinguished Rob Humphreys and provided with the German Lloyd GL Plus Certification, offers a highly compelling formula. The lines of the Elan Impression 514 are streamlined and elegant with luxurious touches throughout. The semi deck saloon opens into a magnificent space with overhead and side panoramic windows welcoming in plenty of natural light and excellent views. MGV TREATON has a keel-stepped mast and a powerful hull infused with the latest 3-D technology, with an isophthalic gelcoat finish. The hull is moulded in a one step process with Elan’s highly advanced technology based on vacuum-assisted lamination, which improves the mechanical properties of the hull up to 50%. The injection - moulded deck is cored with discontinuous balsa panels. The ballast keel is cast iron encapsulated in epoxy. A powerful 115-hp Yanmar engine pushes the sailboat at eight to nine knots at 2500 rpm with truly little noise or vibration. Under power, she maneuvers like a yacht. The large three - bladed folding prop and powerful bow thruster make backing out of the slip a highly controlled affair. The enormous open cockpit area provides ample space and excellent comfort. The aft garage door opens easily serving as a large swimming platform and additional entertainment area. The 3 unfolding steps add even more entertainment space to the vast aft area. The retractable hydraulic Besenzoni 500 gangway provides easy access on and off the yacht. The electric mainsail winch, an extra fridge, a BBQ grill and a sink on the cockpit offer ultimate level of functionality and convenience. The forward sunbathing platform is huge as well and equipped with comfortable mattresses. The interior uses teak wood, stainless handholds and intimate LED lighting.
